We Practice What We Preach

Here at Heaven Sent Beauty we only deliver treatments that we believe in and have given proven results. Before launching anything into the salon we run a trial period on ourselves, family and friends (perks of the job). Unless we have had the treatment and experienced it working for us first hand, you won’t see it in our salon. That’s why when you talk to us about your treatments you won’t just have our knowledge and expertise on the products and treatments you’ll have our honest experience on how it worked for us too!

When clients ask what we use on our skin and how we get our glow, it’s honestly because we use the products, do the treatments and practise what we preach!

A few days ago Clare was asked “Your skin looks amazing today, what are you using?” and the only honest reply she could make was “You see that Environ cupboard over there? And the Jane Iredale shelf? It’s all on my face!”

It’s not just the relaxing and pampering treatments we test out, oh no! We have been through the pain that we sometimes subject you to. Our lovely Lycon waxing system was trailed on ourselves as well as IPL in various areas, so we know exactly what you are going through!

When Nita wanted to take her eyebrow queen status up a level and started offering the new techniques in hair-stroke semi-permenant makeup, Clare was one of the first to have it done and her eyebrows have never been more ‘on fleek’ – take a look next time you are in salon!

If you ever have any questions on any of our treatments, please feel free to ask away, we have been there too!

The Benefits of Vitamin C

Vitamin C otherwise know ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin. We cannot store it in the body, which means we need it from our diet every day.

Vitamin C helps to protect cells and keep them healthy. It is also involved in the production of collagen, which maintains healthy connective tissues, important for the support and structure of tissues and organs including the skin, bones and blood vessels.

Vitamin C helps with wound healing, and consuming vitamin C increases the amount of iron we can absorb from vegetables, such as brocolli, sprouts and kale.

What Your Nails Say about Your Health

Nail abnormalities can tell you a lot about your general health. Changes in the colour, texture and thickness of your fingernails and toenails can indicate a problem with your general health. Here is a summary of some of the nail conditions that may indicate what is going on inside.

Nail Lifting

Nail lifting (distal onycholysis) happens when the tip of the nail separates from the nail bed on the finger or toe.

It can be the result of psoriasis or a fungal disease, but is often due to overzealous manicures or cleaning under nails with sharp objects. The space under the nail can then become filled with bacteria, which turn the nail greenish-black.

Nail lifting can be treated by soaking the nail in diluted white vinegar or bottle sterilising solution containing sodium hypochlorite.

In the long-term, keeping the nails short will help to reduce any further trauma and allow the nail to grow out attached. Use a soft nailbrush to clean your nails, don’t clean under the nails where they meet the fingernail and avoid using sharp objects to clean under your nails.
